Monitoring: Optimising Alert Topics

By January 23, 2023 January 27th, 2023 No Comments

AMPLYFI’s Monitoring tab allows you to stay up to date on organisations or technologies that you are interested in through daily alert emails. It also allows you to create a library of documents that you can analyse further through our Analysis tab.

In this blog, we will be sharing how to optimise your Alert Topics. First, let’s define some key vocabulary in relation to Monitoring:

Alert Topic

Alert Topics are keywords and concepts that you would like to be alerted on when they appear in relation to an organisation or technology that you have included in your Area of Interest. For example, you might want to be alerted to discussion of ‘new projects’ (the Alert Topic) in relation to ‘Amazon Web Services’ (the Single Interest).

Single Interest

A Single Interest is either an individual organisation or technology that you are interested in monitoring. For example, “electric vehicles.”

Area of Interest

An Area of Interest is a group of Single Interests that you would like to be updated on, usually that have some relation to each other. For example, an Area of Interest could include both “electric vehicles” and “smart cities.”

Depending on the type of Area of Interest you have selected (Competitor Monitoring, Customer Monitoring, Portfolio Monitoring or Technology Monitoring), we will include a number of default Alert Topics. The default selection relate to the type of monitoring you selected and will provide you with interesting and useful alerts. However, fine tuning these Alert Topics – by adding some and removing others – will help reduce noise and ensure you receive the most relevant alerts to you.

Step 1

From the settings dashboard of your Area of Interest, with the Alerts box, click the three dots next to a Single Interest (e.g. an organisation or technology) and select “Edit Topics.”

Step 2

On the right, you will see a list of the default Alert Topics that DeepInsight is looking for in association with this particular interest. DeepInsight will look for the exact matches as well as the concept behind these Alert Topics. Click to bin symbol next to an Alert Topic in this list to remove it.

On the left side of the screen, you will see a text box in which you can type any topic that you would like to be alerted to. This box will autosuggest as you type, prompting you with topics similar to what you enter. Select the topics from the dropdown and they will be added to the list on the right. If you would like DeepInsight to alert you to very specific key words (e.g. product numbers, regualtions or companies), write the alert in speech marks, e.g. “ISO 90001”.

At the bottom of the screen, you can see the option to “Apply topics to all alerts.” Checking this box will apply the list of Alert Topics on the right to all of the single interests in this Area of Interest.

Step 3

At the bottom of the screen, you can see the option to “Apply topics to all alerts.” Checking this box will apply the list of Alert Topics on the right to all of the single interests in this Area of Interest.

Once you have refined the Alert Topics assigned to your Single Interests, you will notice that the alert emails that you receive will start to become more specific to the topics you are most interested in.
